This is a card I designed with Lana Cavar for a benefit at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. The theme of the benefit was "gold" which at first didn't seem like much of a theme at all, but then it turned out to be a really good theme. We were trying to come up with some way to reproduce just gold-as-pure-ornament without it being gold-something (like a picture of a gold coin, or a gold ring, or gold text). I met with a really great printer named Tony Berci who does foil-stamping. We did some experimenting with using the backs of old dies - he had a lot of them stored up, and was open to using them to make impressions. He ended up using 6 different dies - pictured here are the flyers that were distributed to promote the event. We also made some letter-sized versions that were folded down to go through the mail.
